Northumberland's fine coast-line is within a short drive, so too are splendid castles such as Bamburgh and Warkworth, the historic Roman Wall, and miles of undisturbed open countryside.Baileygate House in Alnwick, Northumberland, is a recently restored 18th century house dating back to 1769, sitting in a prime location, just minutes from the western tower entrance to Alnwick Castle, and in the quiet street of Bailiffgate in the central medieval and Georgian core of Alnwick. This natural stone house is part of a terrace giving immediate access to both town and country. Walk out to the right and you can be in Alnwick Castle and the town’s market place within 5 minutes, or down the Peth to the splendid pastures alongside the river Aln. Walk to the left and you can reach Alnwick old Abbey and the Duke’s superb Capability Brown Hulne Park also within minutes. The house is accessed through the passage door which also leads onwards to the rear garden and yard known historically as “Nurses Yard” dating back centuries. The house itself is thought to have been variously occupied by the town’s millers, tradesmen and was even a convent home over the past 240 years. Advertise my villa with Owners Direct |
